05 Oct Voluntary groups and charities in Mayo to benefit €227,726 from funding in response to Covid-19 – Deputy Dillo

Mayo Fine Gael TD Alan Dillon today welcomed funding of €227,726 for Voluntary groups, charities and social enterprises in Mayo. The local groups will receive financial support through the Covid-19 Stability Fund.

Deputy Dillon said, “I am delighted that the fourth tranche of COVID-19 Stability Funding worth €4.29 million will be provided to organisations nationwide.

“5 community and voluntary groups as well as social enterprises in Mayo are set to receive €227,726 in funding from the Dormant Accounts Fund.

“The Covid-19 stability fund is designed to support community and voluntary organisations, charities and social enterprises that are experiencing financial difficulties as a result of the pandemic. The past few months have been extremely challenging for these organisations in Mayo and they need support.

“Once-off cash injections of between €2,000 and €200,000 are being awarded to qualifying organisations that provide critical services to those most vulnerable in society. This will help with short term cash flow issues caused by the COVID-19 crisis.

“Some of the applications that were successful in Mayo include:

• Leave No Trace €62,133
• Foxford Sports and Leisure Centre Limited  €74,727
• Mayo Mental Health Association €39,794
• Mayo Cancer Support, Rock Rose House €24,025
• Family Life Services t/a The Family Centre €27,047

“This includes organisations from both phase 1 and 2 (unincorporated charities) of the fund and is on top of three previous tranches of funding announced in June, July and September 2020 which allocated funding of over €25 million to 489 organisations.

“These organisations provide services in a diverse range of areas including homeless services, cancer supports, counselling and family supports, addiction services and assistance for older and vulnerable persons.

“I wish to thank Minister of State with responsibility for Community Development and Charities, Joe O’Brien TD for announcing this latest round of funding, which I hope will help these organisations in continuing to provide these essential services which are much needed.”

Deputy Dillon concluded “This funding will help community and voluntary organisations and charities to continue to contribute in these difficult times. I welcome the continuation of this important work.”
