07 Oct Enhanced supports must be delivered during Level 3 Restrictions – Dillon.

Mayo Fine Gael TD Alan Dillon expressed his disappointment that despite the immense public health adherence and compliance by the people of Mayo resulting in low cases levels of Covid-19, people feel the disheartened that they have been asked to move from Level 2 to Level 3 with increased enforcement, of restrictions until October 27th.

The Fine Gael Deputy said, “Mayo had a sustained low Covid-19 incidents incident rate and when travelling within the county people are taking all the necessary pre-cautions”

Deputy Dillon said “Following the written correspondence from the Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Holohan on Sunday evening, stating that the NPHET advice was to move the country to Level 5 from last Monday, I was completed astonished and taken back by such a request, such a dramatic step wold have had serious ramifications for the economy and cause panic across the country.

Having watch the Tánaiste Leo Varadkar TD explain brilliantly why Government decided against a level 5 lockdown shone a light into the real decision make challenges the face Government in balancing public health and trying to protect jobs and maintain a certain level of economic activity.

Deputy Dillon added “It is still not impossible that we could move to Level 4 or Level 5 and the Government will be closely monitoring the situation and keeping it under review and will be fully prepared to make the necessary moves if the need arises.

At last night’s Fine Gael Parliamentary meeting the Mayo TD expressed the need in the upcoming budget for additional financial supports for businesses and sectors which have been negatively affected such as Tourism, Hospitality, Retail, Publicans, Taxi / Coach / Chauffeurs etc. I stressed the importance of the EWSS and the Tánaiste indicated that Government is working hard to develop additional supports for sectors who most affect by a move to Level 3 of the restrictions.
