13 Dec €450,737 awarded to MSLETB under Governments Mitigating against Educational Disadvantage Fund – Dillon
€450,737 has been awarded to Mayo, Sligo, and Leitrim Education and Training Board (ETB) under Governments Mitigating against Educational Disadvantage Fund, Mayo Fine Gael TD Alan Dillon has confirmed.
Minister for Further and Higher Education Simon Harris TD has today announced the distribution of €6.85m in additional funding to support the most educationally disadvantaged in Ireland, comprising over 1,000 initiatives.
Welcoming today’s announcement Deputy Alan Dillon said “This €450,737 funding allocation is specifically designed to support community education for adult learners, who have the highest level of need and will especially help with online learning which has become increasingly important due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“This funding will help Mayo, Sligo, and Leitrim Training Board support 94 projects including a wide range of community-based organizations to provide new courses designed for adult learners.
“It encourages and supports adult learners to re-engage with education and training and also helps attract new learners to engage with education and training opportunities.”
Deputy Dillon concluded by say “In addition, there is a focus on enabling the investment in building the digital infrastructure, including providing devices and software, and increasing providers capacity to deliver online or blended learning.”
Speaking today, Minister Harris said “This Fund is specifically designed to tackle educational inequalities which continue to be highlighted by the COVID-19 pandemic, and support access to community education. I would like to thank all the education providers and learners who have engaged with the system – you continue to make a great difference in your communities and your positive work in changing Irish society is to be commended.”
