14 Apr €21,000 for Mayo Mental Health Organisations

Mayo Fine Gael TD Alan Dillon has welcomed €21,000 in grants made available to the mental health sector in Mayo from a once-off funding allocation of €1m by the Minister for Mental Health Mary Butler.

Mindspace Mayo has been allocated €15,000 for its Schools Mental Health Promotion Programme and Mayo Mental Health Association has been allocated €6,000 to continue its rollout of Mental Health Education programs.

Deputy Alan Dillon said: “Mental health is probably the number one health issue for young people in Ireland today. The concerns and worries of young people around their mental health was compounded by the isolation and uncertainty brought forward by two unprecedented years of the Covid-19 Pandemic.

“This important funding announced today for school mental health education and promotional programs will help strengthen young people’s social and emotional coping skills and improve their overall mental health and wellbeing.”

The Mayo TD continued “It is so important Government prioritise funding within Budget 2023 to support youth counselling services, key mental health interventions and the provision of a safe, respectful, supportive and positive environment in our secondary schools and higher education institutions.”
