Additional funding allocated to Newport Regeneration project

Minister of State, Alan Dillon TD, has welcomed additional funding for a landmark rural regeneration project in West Mayo.
Further funding of €885,176.80 has been allocated to the Newport Regeneration Project under the Rural Regeneration and Development Funding. This is in addition to €5.6million allocated in November 2022.
Minister Dillon said: “A number of elements will combine to improve and enhance the physical appearance, funding and amenity value of Newport. Public realm works will enhance the streetscape in the town centre including dark skies friendly lighting. The demolition of derelict buildings will allow for the construction of an Enterprise and Tourism Hub, providing potential for sustainable economic activity and job creation.
‘The total funding which has now been granted to the Newport project is €6,538,249.40. The request for additional funding is a result of revised additional costs.”
Minister Dillon added: “I want to thank my colleague Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys for this latest allocation to a very important project in Newport. I weant to congratulate everyone involved in securing this significant rural regeneration funding.”
“I believe it is vital that we continue to build resilience in rural communities and make our towns and villages vibrant places for families to live.
“It is also vital that we continue to strengthen the rural economy and support sustainable development in towns such as Newport. I look forward to this project being developed and brought to fruition,” concluded Minister Dillon.
