03 Feb Dillon Calls for Full-Time Animal Welfare Inspector for Mayo
PRESS RELEASE
Fine Gael General Election candidate for Mayo, Alan Dillon has called for the appointment of a full-time Animal Welfare Inspector officer for Mayo.
Dillon also called for a review of the €16 million state funding for the greyhound industry through Bord na gCon (the Irish Greyhound Board).
Mayo has a dog warden, but Dillon says an Animal Welfare Inspector is needed and should be funded via the ISPCA with government support provided on an annual basis.
Dillon says, “I feel strongly that funding for the greyhound industry is in sharp contrast to the animal welfare standards in this sector. Therefore, I am calling for a review of that funding.
“The appointment of a full-time Animal Welfare Inspector is not only a good investment, it is necessary to ensure we improve standards in this county for all animals. Furthermore, this role must have legal capabilities to remove animals in distress, or living in unsuitable or unsafe conditions”
