€16m allocated for Mayo roads – Dillon

A total of €16,247,982 has been allocated for National Roads across Mayo through Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), according to Minister of State, Alan Dillon TD.

“The Department of Transport has announced funding of €14,702,477 in capital investment to Mayo County Council for protection and renewal of roads.

Among the major projects included in the funding are:

  • €7,150,000 for the N59 Newport to Derrada road realignment project
  • €906,000 for works at Heathlawn and Manulla Cross on the N60
  • €485,000 for minor works on the N26 Foxford to Mount Falcon road
  • €300,000 for a minor safety scheme on the N5 Swinford Bypass
  • €300,000 for the N58 Foxford Transport project

Minister Dillon said: “Projects such these demonstrate the clear commitment to the ongoing development of our national road network.

‘I am also delighted to see €88,000,000 allocated to the N5 Ballaghaderreen to Scramoge project, which is under construction, while the N17 Knock to Collooney project has been allocated an additional €1,000,000 to progress its design. These are projects I have continued to advocate for.

‘I am also pleased to see €2,500,000 to progress to the next phase of the N4 Mullingar to Longford dual carriageway. This road will assist the thousands of commuters who travel this route from the west daily and weekly.

‘In addition to the funding announced today, under the current NDP funding for national roads is expected to increase over the rest of the decade”.

“I appreciate the important role played by the national Road Network in ensuring that all parts of Ireland are connected to each other. A safe and efficient National Road Network supports rural residents, allowing them to connect to work, education and healthcare. In addition, it also facilitates the many bus services that now serve rural Ireland. The funding announced today will serve to safeguard and improve this vital national asset for all our citizens,” said Minister Dillon.
