24 Jun Inishturk to benefit from CLÁR funding – Dillon
Inishturk Community Club CLG is to benefit from €11,474.60 in funding under the new ‘Our Islands’ measure from the Department of Rural and Community Development under CLÁR Programme to support community infrastructure projects, welcomed today by Mayo TD Alan Dillon.
Deputy Dillon said “This CLÁR programme has been tailored to specifically support our island communities and to make our islands a more attractive places to live and visit. The funding for community groups is on top of the €1.62 million announced by my colleague Minister Humphreys this week to support community first responders across the country.
Announcing the funding for the island groups, the Minister said:
“I am delighted to announce over €412,000 for 11 successful projects under the new ‘Our Islands’ measure, which comes under my Department’s CLÁR Programme.
“Community and voluntary organisations play a critical role in providing vital services to our offshore communities – making them more attractive places to live and visit.
“These islands have seen significant levels of depopulation over the years and face challenges such as rural isolation and population decline.
Deputy Dillon concluded
“Inishturk Community Club CLG is a non-profit community enterprise responsible for running services and facilities on Inishturk Island, they are also
responsible for development, tourism and events on the Island and are an extremely hard working committee, I am delighted to see this funding of €11,474.60 going towards the purchase of fencing to secure and make safe the boundaries of the playground on the island.”
