Mayo recipients of over €8.2m in sports capital funding announced – Dillon

Minister of State Alan Dillon TD is delighted to announce that Mayo has been awarded over €8,264,473 in sports capital funding as part of the Government’s Community Sport Facilities Fund. This significant investment underscores the Government’s commitment to grassroots sports and community development.

“I want to congratulate all the clubs, organisations, and societies that have been allocated funding on this occasion. The importance of the Sports Capital Equipment Program cannot be understated for many sports clubs and organisations,” said Minister Dillon.

“I’m delighted to see such a strong investment in grassroots sports, and particularly happy to see such a strong investment in Mayo. I had been consistently calling for an increased funding pot to ensure as many organisations as possible could benefit.

“There was a record number of applications for these grants, and the government responded with the most significant level of individual awards ever.”

Minister Dillon emphasised the crucial role of sport in building stronger communities: “Sport is crucial for all communities, and this funding will go a long way in building stronger communities. It is great to see so many projects in Mayo benefit from sports capital funding. I look forward to seeing lots of construction activity in all parts of the county over the coming months and years.”

He also highlighted the dedication of local volunteers: “It is important for us all to remember that each of them is run by local volunteers who give freely of their time to provide facilities, coaching, and a social outlet for every age group throughout the county. This funding will go some way towards assisting the successful applicants.”

Minister Dillon added, “I have worked very closely with the various clubs and organisations in Mayo over the course of the past 12 months and I am delighted for all those successful projects today. To those whose applications were deemed invalid by the department, I will ensure that full feedback is available and assure them of my support going forward.”

Minister Dillon concluded, “This funding will make a huge difference to communities across county Mayo. I am delighted to have been able to secure this support for so many deserving projects.”
