Why Politics?

I’m excited when you see the ambition, talent and generation I represent in Fine Gael.

I’ve seen the likes of Enda Kenny and the work he has done throughout Mayo. I’ve experience of Castlebar and the business community, and I’ve been to plenty of schools and feel that the youth and the rest of the people of Mayo need strong representation.

Championing business, families & youth

Why Politics? Why Now?

I’m part of a generation that has already experienced the best and worst of times. I grew up in a country powered by an extraordinary economic boom where expectations of what life could offer soared but by the time adulthood came beckoning I had to deal with the fallout from the worst financial crisis this country has experienced.

My decision to seek election is dominated by an aspiration to ‘make a difference’ by implementing positive change within our society in our towns and villages.

I felt there was a gap in the Mayo constituency for a young voice in Government which represents my generation and the challenges we face, for example affordability, housing, climate change, childcare, and the digital and tech era.

Bringing pride, passion & assertiveness

Representing my generation

Running for election was not on the cards, these opportunities don’t just come around, Enda Kenny has held the seat in Castlebar for 45 years. Politics is about people but it is also about timing and opportunity. This is an opportunity I’m going to grab with both hands.

Young people in their 20s and 30s are now the largest demographic in Ireland, ahead of the baby boomers (born 1946-1964) and are increasingly voting in larger numbers.

I was raised to believe our opinions matter and that we should get involved in as many organisations as we feel passionate about.

Our future government policies & procedures

Why are you running for national politics?

For me and my friends I think younger people started to realise how much politics affects them. I think my age group in particular — you’re looking for housing and there’s no affordable housing, the climate emergency we face requires urgent action and the technology revolution we enter will impact our future government policies and procedures.

People start to realise how important politics is when it starts to affect them in every aspect of life, I don’t think it’s that this generation doesn’t care, I think that’s been going on for years and years and the acceptance of younger candidates to run for office is now encouraged and more and more young people are getting involved,

I’m excited when you see the ambition, talent and generation I represent in Fine Gael. The more diversity you can have around a table then the more rounded your government is going to be. That’s why I feel there is a gap in the Mayo constituency for a young voice in Government which represents my generation and the challenges we face. Affordability, Housing, Climate Change, Childcare, and Digital Technology era.

A new voice for a new Ireland

An interest in politics

Growing up in Mayo and the political hinterland, I had an interest in politics watching from the sidelines. I admired Enda Kenny and his commitment to our county and country. I watched the Fine Gael party in Mayo with very strong grassroots movements and good structures. I would have never seen this opportunity coming on the back of Enda Kenny’s retirement. But I made this decision after meeting many of the Fine Gael members at grassroots level. They encouraged me to put my name forward and many feel I am the right person for the job.

I do feel it’s important to have public representatives with diverse backgrounds not just teachers or solicitors. My background stems from the fast-paced corporate environment, working with some of the largest multinationals in the country. As a self-employed company director, I understand the pressures working for yourself.

I feel I have the competencies and capabilities to be a very good candidate and offer the people of Mayo a new voice for a new Ireland.

A diligent candidate

Are you not daunted by the challenge?

I am not daunted by the challenge.

I’ve always had an interested in the political landscape in Mayo. Politics is about people but it is also about timing and opportunity. This is an opportunity I’m going to grab with both hands.

Everything I’ve done in my professional life to date I’ve done on merit. My workmanlike attitude, organisation and planning allow me to be that able and diligent candidate to represent this constituency. Also, as a local in the Castlebar area, I am intimately familiar with the challenges facing the locally business in our community.

There isn’t a parish, village or town in Mayo I haven’t visited in some capacity during my lifetime living and playing for my club and county. I have listened too many of the young, ordinarily and elderly people at many events on my journeys, within my local community and on the pitch and sidelines at games.
Politics is about people but it is also about timing and opportunity. This is an opportunity I’m going to grab with both hands.

Reflecting our modern & diverse society

Empowering people

I want to empower people throughout the Mayo constituency and let them know that they will have a strong voice.

I want to ensure that the common decent working people and the vulnerable and not so well off have someone to turn to in the times of need or struggle. No matter how minute the problem may be.

It’s my intention to give politics in Mayo new life, energy and enthusiasm and make our politics more reflective of the modern and diverse society that Ireland has become. I accept I’ve big shoes to fill but I’m more than ready for the challenge.

In knocking at people’s doors and outlining a vision of how I would like to contribute to improving the circumstances of the communities I aspire to represent, I’m asking that they invest their trust and their own hope in me as a future elected representative for a brighter future.
